Our Journey
We have developed and delivered our workshops to support understanding, confidence, connection & skills, in partnership with the NHS and charities.
See what we’ve done so far…
2023
We ran trial workshops with friends and colleagues who gave us feedback helping us hone our informative, healthy, plant-rich workshops which encourage participants to discover how empowering, easy & fun healthy cooking together can be.
We reached out to potential collaborators in the NHS, charities and community groups while exploring possible funding opportunities.
We ran a series of workshops with Dr Jane Myat and social prescriber Jo Lynch at Caversham GP Practice in Camden. Over 50 staff members took part, from administrators to GP Partners. Dr Linda Mao & Dr Robyn George completed a quantitative and qualitative research project designed to understand how cooking collaboratively using plants & wholefoods might impact overall health, enjoyment and connection. Towards the end of the year Dr Jane Myat informally joined Jane Edwards & Sarah Walter at Circle of Soup.
2024
We delivered 27 workshops in partnership with Cook for Good, Camden; Violet Melchett GP Practice, Kensington & Chelsea; SufraNW, Brent; West Hampstead Community Centre, Camden.
In February Jane Edwards spoke to psychotherapists on the Welldoing.org platform, discussing how cooking & eating together can positively impact mental health.
In June Dr Jane Myat & Jane Edwards overcame their combined fear of public speaking and gave a presentation at the Integrative & Personalised Medicine Conference in The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, Westminster. Who knows what the pros thought, but it was lovely when the girl on the door said our presentation had moved her the most.
2025
Going forward we are continuing to collaborate with our established partners and we are open to new opportunities in London and Wales where Sarah has relocated.
We are evolving our ‘train the trainer’ model, to mentor others to deliver the program. Nutritionalist Una Condron was the first to take the plunge in February running a workshop with Wave Trauma Centre in Ulster.
We also welcomed Chloe Payne to the team. Chloe has a Masters in Nutrition & Public Policy from UCL. She was previously a wellbeing co-ordinator at Violet Melchett GP Practice, and now also works as a community chef at SufraNW whilst working with us to develop our course materials and facilitate workshops.
Accessibility and diversity is baked into our approach.
Ingredients - plant rich & available on every high street/supermarket. Good for you, your wallet and the planet
Price point - our cooking ingredients & equipment are inexpensive and uncomplicated; we cook with energy efficient multi-cookers : we don’t need a kitchen, just a table, a tap and a power supply
No recipe principle - because we teach through ingredients first everyone discovers they can cook with ‘Flavour Maps’ and there is no right or wrong
Learning - the information we share about food and health, while straightforward and mumbo-jumbo free, is based on solid scientific research. Participants learn experientially why preparing & sharing nutritious food which makes you feel great
Collaboration - we cook in small groups and eat together reinforcing shared achievement, fun and enjoyment
